One of the things Brainhat can do is hold a conversation.
This audio clip was taken at SpeechTek '02, in late October. It demonstrates Brainhat following a mixed initiative conversation, asking questions and giving answers. The programming included four subject areas or "memes:" 1) food, 2) the weatherman who had been hit by lightening, 3) Alisha (Brainhat's persona at the show), 4) a guest in the booth. The recognition was done with Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Version 6. The valley girl voice was provided compliments of Rhetorical Systems. This clip was taken using Nuance on Dialogic hardware and Rhetorical's TTS. There is just one meme in play. The caller is Rich, from our office. Here is an older clip, using Microsoft SAPI4 and Microsoft's Crystal for TTS. We received a call from someone with the wrong number while we were working with Nuance and Rhetorical. We hadn't loaded sufficient information or grammar to deal with a confused person, so the conversation is a bit halting. All the same, the caller never knew that they were speaking with a computer. Do we pass the Turing test?
