Brainhat can dispatch commands to external processes or devices. One can imagine a human interface that would direct a change in the lighting, or to instruct a robotic arm to grab a bolt. Multimedia applications have endless possibilities.

To demonstrate, we have customized Brainhat's robot interface to connect to the popular media player Winamp. The interaction goes something like the following:

On the other side, a Winamp plugin picks up the command sent from Brainhat and plays the user a song. The winamp response is motivated by an inference "programmed" into the system:

"If the speaker wants to hear something then winamp play something."

Here is a screenshot of this interaction:

Mp3 data have been imported into the system, so that Brainhat has knowledge of all the music on the machine. This data is extracted from the id3 tags found embedded in most mp3s, and stored in conceptual form inside Brainhat's relational database.

The mp3 player link to Brainhat suggests a capability for multimedia systems interfaces or set-top boxes. One can envision a Brainhat capable of managing the television schedule, or as a whole-house executive with a personality.
